The 2016 Renfrew County Council remuneration figures have been released. As expected, the top money earner around the table was Peter Emon, who sat as Warden for the year, and was paid a total of $77,751.

A SNOWY DECEMBER IN OTTAWA VALLEY: ENVIRONMENT CANADA

After a mild start, December turned out to be a snowy month in the Ottawa Valley. Environment Canada's weather review for last month shows over 82 centimetres of the white stuff fell, the most snow we've had in a December since 2007.

IMPROVING INFRASTRUCTURE TOP PRIORITY FOR GREATER MADAWASKA IN 2017

Greater Madawaska Council has approved its list of priorities for 2017. Last August, council began the process of creating priorities with the help of facilitator Erik Lochhart. The process also involved two public meetings to garner community input.

The Ottawa Valley Tourist Association is looking for nominations for the Marilyn Alexander Tourism Championship Award, Business of Distinction Award and Special Event Award. The awards will be handed out at the OVTA's annual general meeting in late April.

YOUTH NETWORK WANTS HELP FROM GREATER MADAWASKA

The Renfrew County Youth Network has reached out to Greater Madawaska Township. They're asking the municipality to become a grant partner as the network works on a proposal for a $750 000 grant from the Trillium Foundation.

FORMER ARNPRIOR RESTAURANT OWNER CONVICTED OF ARSON

Twenty months in jail for an Arnprior businessman. According to the Arnprior Chronicle-Guide, Mustapha "Moe" Fakih was found guilty in a Pembroke courtroom of arson while a property was occupied and arson that threatened the safety of others.

SNOWMOBILE PATROL RESULTS IN EIGHT CHARGES

The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP are on their sleds patrolling the trails. Between Jan. 6 and Jan. 8th, the OPP checked more than 300 snowmobilers.
